Jim and I live in the area where I grew up, in the mountains of northern California. We built our home in Dutch Flat, less than a mile from where I grew up, in Alta. Our community - Alta/Dutch Flat/Gold Run - is a beautiful oak-pine woodland area at about 3,500 ft. in elevation, which means four distinct seasons and occasional heavy snows.
The several small towns which make up our community - Dutch Flat, Alta, Gold Run, Baxter, and Emigrant Gap - reflect colorful aspects of California's Gold Rush and railroad history. We love living here, for many reasons.
